Il Teatro di Verzura

Continuing the tradition of Il Serchio delle Muse to present concerts in beautiful and significant out door venues, the first concert of our summer season will be held at the Verzura Theatre at Via Roma 31, Borgo a Mozzano.

Towards the end of the seventeenth century and throughout the eighteenth century it was fashionable to create green open-air theatres in the gardens of villas, palaces and convents. Called 'green' or 'greenery' because the scenography, the wings and other elements were made of plants and trees. The stage was usually made of lawn. The Verzura Theater in Borgo a Mozzano was set up by the Oblate Sisters at their convent, which today is part of the Municipality of Borgo a Mozzano.

The Concert

The concert on July 17 will include opera arias performed by Alessandra Meozi - Soprano, Leonardo Meloni - tenor and Bruno Caproni - Baritone, accompanied by the brass counterquintet of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

The Controquintetto brass ensemble has its roots in the transcription of opera and symphonic music with the aim of making the classical and opera repertoire accessible to a wider audience. With this aim they sometimes join with special guests.

The group participates in cultural and artistic initiatives and in numerous concerts, where it has enjoyed great public success.

Controquintetto

Counterquintet

The brass ensemble has its roots in the cultural tradition of the band, thanks to which, before the advent of reproduced music, a wider audience could access the classical and lyrical repertoire. In fact, the Counterquintetto was created with the intention of making the symphonic opera repertoire accessible to all, often alongside one or more special guests.

In the essentiality of a small group, the presence of the voice or the solo instrument stimulates and renews a style that has always fascinated and excited audiences, however departing from the more usual canons of orchestral or piano accompaniment.

The majority of the members of the Contraquintetto are part of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra and the Orchestra of Tuscany. All of them have been active for years in the Italian and European music scene, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.

The group has to its credit numerous concerts and participation in various kinds of cultural and artistic initiatives where it has met with great success with the public.
